BMW Longlife 01 approval for engine oils

The automobile manufacturer BMW has been issuing the BMW Longlife 01 specification since 2001. It applies to all petrol and diesel engines without diesel particulate filters (DPF). The change intervals for engine oils with BMW Longlife 01 approval are variable thanks to the integrated Longlife Service and are based on the service interval display of the vehicle. Approved viscosity classes for BMW Longlife 01 are SAE 0w30, SAE 5w30, SAE 0w40 and SAE 5w40.

Use BMW Longlife 01 or 04?

Engine oils with the approval BMW Longlife 01 are particularly suitable for petrol and diesel vehicles without diesel particulate filters. In contrast to oils with the release BMW Longlife 04 they do not have a Low SAPS character. Due to the increased pollutant emissions, they are not suitable for cars with DPF. The BMW Longlife 04 standard is a further development of BMW Longlife 01 and is therefore backwards compatible. If your car is designed for Longlife 01, you can also fill in Longlife 04 without hesitation. Under no circumstances should engine oil with the approval BMW Longlife 01 be filled in diesel vehicles with DPF.
