SAE 75W90 transmission oil from ADDINOL

Transmission oils of SAE class 75W90 consist of semi-synthetic or fully synthetic base oils. This gives them an outstanding viscosity-temperature behaviour and they can be used all year round. The oils are suitable for manual transmissions in many passenger car models. They can also be used in axle drives as well as steering and transfer gearboxes of machines. With our Oilfinder you can check if SAE 75W90 oil is suitable for your gearbox.

Transmission oils of SAE class 75W90 are characterised by good wear and corrosion protection properties. They ensure a long gearbox service life and reliable lubrication of the gearbox under high loads.

SAE 75W90 meaning

75W90 stands for the SAE class, for which the transmission oil must have characteristic properties. This classification is made by the Society of Automotive Engineers. In the case of multigrade oil, the flow properties of the oil at certain temperatures are particularly important in this context. The value before the "W" (W=winter suitability) indicates the flowability of the oil at cold temperatures. Gear oils with 75W remain flowable up to -40°C. The number "90" refers to the kinematic viscosity of the gear oil at 100 °C. The oil is not viscous. This comprises a range of 13.5 - 18.4 mm²/s. The oil has a high shear stability and can withstand high loads in the gearbox.

75W90 or 80W90 transmission oil?

When refilling or changing the transmission oil, always observe the vehicle manufacturer's instructions and follow their instructions. If a 75W90 oil is recommended, it should also be used. If both 75W90 and 80W90 are approved for your vehicle, you have the choice.

Basically, the gear oils do not differ much from each other. 75W90 is flowable to -40 °C, 80W90 is flowable to -26 °C only. All other parameters of the oil are identical. In a Central European winter, temperatures below -20 °C are hardly to be expected. Therefore 80W90 can also be used.

Oils of different SAE classes can also be mixed with each other. You should only bear in mind that the oil then rather assumes the slightly worse cold flow properties of the 80W90 oil. The mixture therefore offers no advantages whatsoever and should only be used in an emergency when no other oil is available.
