VW 505 01 approval for engine oils

The specification VW 505 01 was developed for Volkswagen brand cars with diesel engine and fixed service interval (annual oil change). Accordingly, these are not long-life oils. The engine oils are especially suitable for diesel engines with unit-injector system. If your operating manual requires a 505 01 oil for the change, you cannot use a VW 505 00 oil as it is not backwards compatible with it. However, an engine oil with VW 507 00 approval is also suitable, as this is an advanced formula. Typical viscosity grades for VW 505 01 oils are SAE 5w30 and SAE 5w40. The VW standard 505 01 also applies to diesel vehicles of the subsidiaries Audi, Skoda and Seat.
