VW 508 00 approval for engine oils

The comparatively new engine oil specification VW 508 00 was issued by Volkswagen for petrol engines with low consumption. SAE 0w20 is intended as the viscosity class. Due to the low viscosity of the oil there is little friction in the engine, which in turn reduces fuel consumption. The engines therefore comply with the EURO 6 emissions standard. The change intervals for the oils with VW 508 00 can vary due to a longlife service (latest change after two years or after 30,000 kilometres). The VW 508 00 standard is based on the Longlife IV (4) technology. For modern diesel vehicles, the VW 509 00 standard applies in parallel; both standards are not backwards compatible with older specifications. The VW 508 00 standard also applies to vehicles of the subsidiaries Audi, Skoda and Seat.
