SAE 90 transmission oil from ADDINOL

SAE class 90 transmission oils consist of high-quality mineral oils. They are lightly additivated and therefore compatible with older passenger car models such as vintage cars. The main areas of application for SAE 90 class transmission oil are manual transmissions and non-hypoid toothed axle drives in motor and commercial vehicles. With our Oilfinder you can check whether SAE 90 class oil is suitable for your transmission.

SAE class 90 transmission oils feature good wear and corrosion protection properties. They also have good antifoam properties. They thus ensure a long gearbox service life and excellent load capacity of the gearbox. Transmission oils of the SAE 90 class effectively lubricate gears with a strong tendency to foam formation.

SAE 90 meaning

SAE 90 refers to the SAE class according to which the transmission oil has been classified. This classification is made by the Society of Automotive Engineers. These are monograde oils which are mainly used at temperatures above freezing point. SAE 90 oils do not have an optimised cold flow behaviour and should therefore not necessarily be used in winter. Since most vintage cars are only driven in the warm months anyway, this hardly matters. The number "90" refers to the kinematic viscosity of the transmission oil at 100 °C. This comprises a range of 13.5 - 18.4 mm²/s. The higher the number, the more viscous the oil is.
