Hypoid transmission oil
Hypoid transmission oil is a lubricant that is specially tailored to the needs of hypoid transmissions. Hypoid gearboxes are curved-tooth, axle-shifted bevel gearboxes. They are used in vehicles with axle drive (mostly trucks) and place quite high demands on the lubricant. The drive transmission set of a motor vehicle must transmit a rotary motion parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle to the wheels whose axis of rotation is vertical to it.
The decisive advantage of offset is that the pinion can be made larger and thus more stable than the transmission ratio. This increases the smoothness and load capacity of the gearbox while saving space. The disadvantage is the high sliding component on the flanks, which places high demands on the lubricant. The tooth flanks require special protection by the oil and a special additive to minimise wear. It should also be noted that bearings, joints and the differential must be lubricated by the lubricant.
Other gearbox designs function with different gearing or power transmission. Spur gears, for example, rely on parallel power transmission. Each type has specific advantages and disadvantages and is only used in suitable machines.

FAQ about hypoid transmission oils
Hypoid transmission oils are highly additivated or have strong additives in order to absorb the high loads that occur within the gearbox and to protect the components. Some additives, for example, have a corrosive effect on copper, which is used in some gearbox designs, among others. In general, hypoid transmission oils are extremely stable, guarantee a long-lasting, constant lubricating film and defy extreme temperature fluctuations.
