What does 0W50 mean?
The designation ‘0W50’ refers to the SAE grade according to which the oil has been classified. As a multigrade oil, the 0W50 meets the requirements for both high and low temperatures. The oils can therefore be used all year round. 0W means that the oil is suitable for winter use down to -40 °C, ensuring that the oil remains fully fluid even during cold starts and provides optimum lubrication for the engine. The second part of the SAE grade indicates the kinematic viscosity at 100 °C. At 100 °C (operating temperature in the engine), 0W50 has a flow rate of 16.3 to 21.8 mm²/s and is therefore capable of withstanding even the most extreme conditions. Its extremely high performance provides optimum protection for engines against corrosion, wear and deposits, even under the most demanding conditions on the racetrack.
0W50 properties
ADDINOL 0W50 engine oils are suitable for both petrol and diesel engines in passenger cars. They are designed to support modern fuel-injected and turbocharged engines. Thanks to the 0W50 oil’s excellent flow properties at 100 °C, the critical lubrication points in the engine are reliably supplied. Because of the good shear stability, the lubricating film does not break down even under the highest loads. This is why 0W50 oils are used in areas such as motor racing. Special additives provide particularly high wear protection and prevent the oil from losing viscosity under heavy loads.
