Incredibly efficient!

Customer: wood-based panel industry, Germany
Plant: double belt drive of a continuous press line (MDF/HDF).

Challenge: The development of the oil sump temperature of the two planetary gearboxes on the upper belt operating in parallel on the wood-based panel press under the same conditions was investigated. The temperature was documented at different speeds with the synthetic polyglycol-based gear oil previously used. Thereby, the temperature difference over all measuring points was 1 to 3°C.

Low friction coefficient for high gear efficiency

ADDINOL product: Industrial gear oil ADDINOL Eco Gear 320 S

After the changeover of the drive "left" to ADDINOL Eco Gear 320 S a comprehensive recording of the temperatures at both gears (left and right) was carried out again. At the even higher press speed of 1,130 mm/s both values had consequently increased, but the temperature of the drive "left" lubricated with ADDINOL Eco Gear was 84.7 °C, that of the drive "right" was 93.7 °C. ADDINOL Eco Gear on PAO basis had achieved an average temperature reduction of 7 to 9 °C compared to the synthetic gear oil on polyglycol basis!

Rule of thumb:
For every 10°C temperature increase, the oil aging doubles or the oil application time halves. So every degree Celsius by which the oil temperature is lowered matters! This applies in particular to gear oils which are to remain in service for a long time.

Result:
Thanks to the innovative Surftec® technology the friction coefficient of ADDINOL Eco Gear lubricants is considerably lower than of conventional CLP industrial gear oils. This results in an improvement of the efficiency of the gear and a longer oil service life.

Customer: Landfill gas plant operator, China
Plant: INNIO Jenbacher gas engines 320s.

Challenge: Operating gas engines with special gases, such as biogas, landfill gas or sewage gas, not only imposes an enormous load on the engine, but also on the engine oil. They usually contain strong acid formers such as chlorine or sulfur compounds or silicon, as in the case of the landfill gas plant in Guangdong Province, China. In order to ensure reliable lubrication, the gas engine oil used has to neutralise the resulting acids reliably.

The application of ADDINOL MG-40 Extra Plus was accompanied by the ADDINOL analysis service. Thus the condition of both engine and gas engine oil could be closely observed and maximum safety for engine and operation could be guaranteed especially under the present difficult operating conditions.

Alkaline reserve for engine protection and maximum operating times

Result: Despite high silicon values of up to 250 mg/kg the powerful alkaline reserve of ADDINOL MG-40 Extra Plus could reliably neutralise the acidic components from the combustion process and prevent corrosive wear. Apart from the comprehensive protection of the engine, the application of the modern ADDINOL gas engine oil also extended the oil operating time to 1930 operating hours.

Customer: Packaging production, Czech Republic
Plant: Conveyor chains in the production of egg cartons

Challenge: Conveyor chains are used in almost the entire production of egg cartons and therefore pass through different production sections, which are characterised by very different environmental influences as well as operating conditions. The chain oil must form a stable lubricating film in each section. In the oven zones, the chains are exposed to temperatures of over 220°C for a period of four to eight minutes. In wet and humid working areas, on the other hand, accumulations of fiber mash, glue and release agent may occur. Therefore, an optimum adjustment to the prevailing conditions is essential for the application of a chain oil. 

ADDINOL product: Chain oil ADDINOL Roller Track Lube 150

With self-cleaning effect and high flash point for reliable lubrication

Result: ADDINOL Roller Track Lube 150 was selected for conveyor chains in the production of egg cartons. Due to its synthetic base components it is especially applicable in high-temperature applications with temperature peaks of up to +250°C. Moreover, the higher flash point of 290°C compared with the previously used competitive oil (flash point at 264°C) contributes to a significant increase of operational safety. Under unfavorable environmental conditions, such as high dust loads, high water ingress or under aggressive media, lubricants are required which show particularly good creeping properties and even contain base and additive components insensitive to moisture. In addition, ADDINOL Roller Track Lube 150 offers a self-cleaning effect. Special additives generate surface tensions of different strength in deposits, wood and paper inclusions, which leads to softening and loosening of deposits and thus guarantees a clean chain respectively a stable lubricating film.

Customer: Industrial bakery production, Germany
Plant: Various units for the production of rolls, baguettes, ciabatta, pita and pizza rolls: kneading machines, conveyors, ovens, packaging machines, etc.

Challenge: During food production, contact between food and lubricant may occur at some lubrication points. To ensure maximum safety for the consumer, the lubricants used must meet the strict requirements of the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). The American authority specifies which ingredients may be used for food-grade lubricants. Despite other ingredients, the chain and gear oils and greases should provide high-performance protection against rust and corrosion and reduce friction and wear. In addition, extreme environmental conditions such as high temperatures, moisture and water impacts or flour dust, sugar and fruit acids have to be considered.

NSF H1 lubricants guarantee safety for machine and bakery products

Result: Since the start of production in 2009 ADDINOL lubricants have been applied in the production lines of the large German bakery. With the extension of the range of food grade lubricants and the introduction of the ADDINOL FoodProof series all lubricants were changed to the corresponding NSF H1, kosher and halal certified lubricants. Initially, a distinction was made between H1 lubrication points, where contact was unavoidable, and H2 lubrication points, where contact could be excluded. In the meantime ADDINOL lubricants with NSF H1 certification are used in nearly all areas - without restrictions at maximum productivity or unfavorable environmental influences of some production steps.
